katie rodrigue (She/her)
I am a biologist for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Marine Fisheries and a master’s student in the Humphries Lab. My work as a biologist is broad and includes juvenile fish and shellfish monitoring in the southern RI coastal ponds, blue crab management, fish kill response, and outreach coordination. I am interested in understanding and applying effective fisheries management strategies in the face of a changing climate. For my master’s research, I will be performing a stock assessment of the blue crab population in Rhode Island waters ahead of a potential emerging fishery.
Born in Texas to RI natives, my family and I moved back to the Ocean State when I was still a child. I’ve been obsessed with the ocean and marine life from a young age, and I graduated with my BS in Marine Biology from the University of Rhode Island in 2013. After graduating and spending some time at sea during three research cruises on board E/V Nautilus, my heart pulled me back to lli’l Rhody where I began my career at RI DEM in 2015. In my free time, I enjoy my saltwater reef aquariums, gardening, diving, and going on adventures with my wife Meg and dog Hooper.
